Posted in: Bayou La Batre

Alabama Gulf Coast real estate in Bayou La Batre is a part of south Mobile County.  Described as the "Seafood Capital of Alabama," the small fishing village and shipbuilding center of Bayou La Batre is home to approximately 2500 residents.

However, Bayou La Batre Alabama real estate is familiar to millions.  Films such as Forrest Gump, Pirates of the Caribbean:  Curse of the Black Pearl, and the Big Shrimpin' documentary series were shot on these Gulf Coast properties in Bayou La Batre.  The Black Pearl ship built for Walt Disney Studios for the movie was the facade covering a 90-foot steel utility boat.

Bayou La Batre homes are quiet vacation getaways and retirement homes as well as full-time living.  Land and homes in Mobile County here are priced from approximately $100,000 into the millions in many cases, depending on the number of acres.

In addition to the large acreages and homesites for sale in south Mobile County, real estate in Bayou La Batre is comprised of waterfront commercial properties in the harbor at the entrance of the Gulf of Mexico.  A seafood-processing harbor for fishing boats and shrimp boats packages seafood from hundreds of sources.

The community is historic.  Founded in 1786, Bayou La Batre is the first permanent settlement on the South Mobile County mainland.  Settled by the French, the original community named Riviere D'Erband or "bayou of the battery," began from a Spanish land grant on the West Bank.

Mobile County Public School System serves the families living in the area.  The community also opened a new library to serve the Asian-American community.
